Technocracy's Map of an Idealized American Defensive Area, on the Eve of World War II

"Technate of America"

Color-printed map, 1940, highlighting the area of continental America, as well as Greenland, that the Technocracy organization believed should be the United States's necessary "defense area", printed to accompany the July 1940 issue of "Technocracy" magazine, 22 pages (present here), 13 pages of which are devoted to the article "America - Now and Forever" by Howard Scott (founder and director-in-chief of Technocracy, Inc) in which he elaborates on the theory depicted in the map, "Continental United States cannot be defended against Continental agression from other continents. It can only be defended by an adequate defense of the entire Continent of North America!" and goes on to elaborate how the government should take over most manufacturing businesses, transportation etc. and, regarding the map, "It will be noted that the area in red is inclusive of those Spanish-speaking countries south of the Rio Grande...We should immediately acknowledge our planned intentions of consolidating these territories, not as separate political entities, but as part of the Continent of North America", on off-white paper, with light vertical and horizontal folds as issued; some slight offsetting but otherwise in very good condition and an uncommon map, the magazine also in good condition
