"Map of the City of Providence, Rhode Island / Map of East Providence, showing the comparative demands for a Bridge at Walkers Pt. & at the 'Old Red Bridge' Crossing"
Engraved map with hand-coloring, circa 1870, printed on two sheets joined in a curving line along the banks of the Seekonk River (on the west side of the river north of India Point, and on the east to the south), published by Sampson, Davenport & Co, Boston, the left-hand panel engraved by G. Boynton, Boston, and first printed in 1869, this combined map published to show the relative merits of the bridge at Walker's Point (near Angell Street) and the Old Red Bridge (at Waterman Street), with considerable detail about the size, and potential for business, of various companies in East Providence (the right-hand panel was most likely printed in some type of wax/photographic method, which would have allowed for quick but less precise creation), on very thin cream paper (both sheets the same)
Sheet 27 x 32 3/4 inches
